Saturate in 2026

SATURATE [sach-uh-reyt] - to cause to unite with the greatest possible amount of another substance. To fill completely with something that permeates or pervades. To load to capacity.

I often use the idea of “Saturate” to describe our intake of Scripture. It should be like a sponge. Soak it up. Use it - getting other things wet - you can’t not get wet when you encounter a soaked sponge. But with a sponge - it needs to be constantly saturated, used, then re-soaked. If you don’t do that, it gets hard, crusty, and probably stinky.

So this year - the challenge is to continually soak in God’s Word - squeeze it out on others - and then go back to the fountain and re-saturate. Rinse. Wash. Repeat.

Here are 10 reasons I came across to do this:

1. Scripture Reveals Jesus Christ

Luke 24:27, "And beginning with Moses and with all the prophets, He explained to them the things concerning Himself in all the Scriptures."

2. Scripture Gives and Sustains Life

Psalm 19:7, "The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul."

3. Scripture Protects from Satan

Ephesians 6:17, "Take...the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God."

4. Scripture Imparts Grace and Peace

John 1:16, "For from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace."

5. Scripture Sanctifies

Psalm 119:11, "I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you."

6. Scripture Gives Joy

Psalm 119:103, "How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!"

7. Scripture Protects us from Destructive Error

Psalm 19:7b,  "The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple."

8. Scripture Conveys to us the Hope of Heaven

1 Peter 1:3-4, “According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you.”

9. Scripture Forms Us

Psalm 19:8b, "the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes."

10. Scripture Guides us to Correct Understanding

Psalm 119:105, "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”

So as you think toward the rest of 2026 - think through your plan to saturate yourself in Scripture. There are several options on our Resource page.

Here’s a great starting point if you’re not quite ready to commit to a more comprehensive reading plan suggested by pastor Don Green:

Read Psalm 1, Psalm 19, and Psalm 119. Read through all three at your own pace, then start over and do it again, and then again.  All three of those Psalms are about the Word of God. That simple reading plan will saturate your mind with what Scripture says about itself.

Psalm 1, Psalm 19, and Psalm 119, in that order, for however long it takes you, and then repeat that sequence over 30 days as you repeatedly ask God to renew your heart.

It can sometimes be hard to know where to start with Scripture.   In those three Psalms, Scripture speaks to you about itself and teaches you how to respond to God's Word.

For many, that will be a far more profitable approach than starting a plan that you have not been prepared to keep.

Then, when your heart is ready, move forward with another plan.

May the Lord bless you greatly as you saturate yourself in His inspired, inerrant, authoritative sufficient word in 2026 and beyond. If you need help with any of this or would like some personal guidance, feel free to reach out to me.

Grace & Peace

P.S. – Whatever plan you choose, I would recommend at least one round of “Saturating Yourself in the Psalms.” A plan devised by my good friend Dr. Steve Jones.

Click here for a printable PDF of the plan, or pick one up on the back table at Coram Deo Bible Church. We meet on Sundays at 10:00 am at 6863 E. Newman Road, Joplin, MO 64801 (1/2 mile east of 249 on Newman).
